Very close to Ojochal is Isla Garza – An island of about twenty kilometers located at the mouth of the Térraba River (the longest river in Costa Rica). Garza Island is relatively sparsely populated because the only access is by boat, which makes it a heavenly place to spend a beach day away from the crowds. Particularly narrow, the island allows you to enjoy the ocean on one side and the river on the other. Upstream, the landscape opens up to a paradise filled with mangroves, amphibians and a wide variety of birds. The river is an ideal habitat for crocodiles which you can observe while following the banks by boat or canoe (several excursions are offered in the mangroves). Boat taxis are available to cross for a small cost. The sunsets can be observed from the Chacara landing stage where you can refresh yourself with a good beer or eat local in one of the existing sodas.

Architectural cultural heritage of Costa Rica, the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Palmar Sur is worth the detour to admire its typical and charming architecture, one of the rare vestiges of the era and historical memory of Palmar and the Canton. A few hundred meters away, you can also take the opportunity to admire the “maquina Negra”, a former locomotive of the banana company.
