The Casa Amarilla Hotel is perhaps the most iconic building in Palmar Norte and was built in the early 1950s by Isabel Trejos Ugalde, its first owner and one of the region's most prominent businesswomen . Since 2004, it has belonged to Lorenzo Mirani, of Italian origin. The builders of the bridge over the Río Grande de Térraba stayed in this hotel until its inauguration in 1960. The building was initially smaller and functioned as a hostel for the sale of food, but later underwent a series of expansions to transform it into a restaurant/hotel. It is one of the oldest buildings in Palmar Norte and was built with second-hand wood purchased from the banana company. The name comes from the payment the banana company made with yellow paint for various services to its original owner.
